Barbheti

Barbheti near Jorhat is a small hillock created by men. The Mowamariya Mahanta Ashtabhuja wanted to see how many disciples he had. So he asked his disciples to put one palmful soil each at 36 feet deep Malow Pathar near Jorhat. Lakhs of his disciples put soil which created this hillock. They also built a Namghar atop it. This place is considered as very sacred. Mowamariyas are a sub-cult within the Eka Sharana Nama Dharma order of Srimanta Sankaradeva. It belongs to Kal Samhati. This feat was done in 1768 AD.
