Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva is an organization devoted to spreading the message of Srimanta Sankaradeva globally.
Srimanta Sankaradeva was a multi-faceted genius, working in diverse fields like religion, literature, music, dance, drama, architecture, social reconstruction etc.
The globally working organization Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva has done a special felicitation function in order to highlight those people who have been working silently to preserve and promote Sankari culture. The felicitation took place at Jorhat Press Club in Jorhat on May 5. Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti, President of the Society presented the citations to the selected artists. The function was presided over by Pradip Hazarika, Co-ordinator of the Society. Bijit Dutta and Hiranmayee Das Gogoi anchored the meeting. Dr Mukut Gohain, Vice President of the Society welcomed the artists and elaborated the past activities of the society.
Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva was formed in 2011 to spread the universal message and glory of Srimanta Sankaradeva all over the world. The website launched by the Society www.sankaradeva.com is recognised as an encyclopedic source on matters related to the legacy of Srimanta Sankaradeva. One of the objectives of the Society is to accord recognition to litterateurs and artists for their serious original works on and about Srimanta Sankaradeva. So the Society felicitated eight dedicated Sankari artists for their immense contribution to Sankari Art and Culture. This is in fact 1st phase of felicitation. The Society will follow it up in later period and in other places of Assam too. The eight artists from upper Assam felicitated in the 1st phase on May 5 were the following:
(from L to R in the photo) : Sri Jogen Dutta Bayan (Uttar Kamalabari Sattra, Majuli), Sri Lakshan Pathak Saikia (Natun Kamalabari Sattra, Majuli), Sri Hem Chandra Goswami (Chamaguri Sattra, Majuli), Sri Girin Mahanta (Kakajan Sipaha Sattra, Jorhat), Sri Kanuram Bora (Joraguri, Rongamati, Dergaon), Sri Gopal Bora (Missamora, Dergaon), Sri Jatin Mahanta (Nangalamara Katanipar Sattra, Simaluguri), and Bayan Khireswar Hazarika (Milan Nagar, Dibrugarh).
The artists expressed deep satisfaction on this constructive initiative by the Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva. Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti explained that Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva was projecting the dedicated artists so that willing learners can approach them.
Prominent citizens of Jorhat attended the meeting. Author Hem Chandra Saikia, artist Khagen Chandra Bora, sattradhikar Muktanath Mahanta, author Mayur Bora, social activist Babulal Gogor etc graced the occasion.
